Traditionally, the engagement ring is placed on the ring finger of the hand. In Germany, Austria and most other European countries, the engagement ring is traditionally worn on the left hand and changes to the right hand when the couple gets married. In Switzerland, southern European countries and the USA, the engagement ring is worn on the ring finger of the right hand and is switched to the left hand when the couple gets married. The change from left to right (or vice versa) often involves the issue of changing the ring width, as the fingers on a person's hands are usually different sizes.
